Preface
The present Index is prepared on the same plan as that of the preceding year, 1874, both Indexes being in accordance with the plan lately adopted by the English Patent Commissioners, so that persons acquainted with the form of the one will be enabled to use the other without difficulty. The number of Patents applied for during the year 1875 was one hundred and fifty-four. Of these, eighty-nine were granted, either wholly or in part, six were refused, and fifty-four were either withdrawn or were allowed to lapse by the applicants. A list of works relating to Patents kept in the office appears on the next page. These works are open for reference, free of charge, at all times during office hours. The Victorian Patent Indexes, models, &c., can also be inspected free of charge. RICHARD GIBBS, Registrar- General.
